Like a rag to a bug

 

Christ I hate a dilemma. But here is one. I have ragwort growing on the corner of my allotment As you can see from the photos, it is currently host to loads of cinnabar caterpillars which depend on this plant. Usually I would pull this invasive weed out immediatly because its spread can be a real problem as it poisons animals (mainly horses) and smothers out many other useful plants. The cinnabar caterpillar does have another host…groundsel, (from same genus senecio as ragwort) and embarrassingly I have plenty of this weed on my allotment too. So I guess I can justify pulling up the small patch of ragwort and placing the caterpillars on the groundsel.
Right? Or maybe not...
